Bathroom Remodel Cost Estimator
Ballpark total cost by bathroom size, tier, and scope.
How to use this calculator
Enter your bathroom's floor area in square feet, choose a remodel tier, and check the items in your project: tub or shower, vanity, tile, and plumbing relocation. The estimate updates as you change your selections. Leave plumbing relocation unchecked if you're keeping the toilet, sink, and shower where they are, which is the most effective way to hold the cost down.
How this is calculated
The calculator applies a per-square-foot rate for your chosen tier, then splits that across the scope items you select, plus labor and permits. The tub or shower carries the largest share, followed by plumbing relocation, since moving pipes is one of the most expensive parts of a bathroom remodel.
Example
For a 50 square foot bathroom at the mid-range tier with a new tub or shower, vanity, and tile, the estimate is $9,000–$15,750. Adding plumbing relocation raises it to $11,500–$20,125. The same bathroom at the budget tier would be $4,500–$9,000, and at the high-end tier $15,750–$31,500.
Typical cost ranges
A cosmetic bathroom refresh (new fixtures, paint, re-grouting) usually runs $100–200 per sq ft, given bathrooms' small footprint relative to fixed costs. A full mid-range remodel runs $200–350 per sq ft, and high-end remodels with layout changes or custom tile work can exceed $350–700 per sq ft. Small bathrooms cost more per square foot because a vanity, toilet, shower valve, and labor cost about the same in a small room as a larger one.
Planning tips
Keep a contingency of 10–20%, since older bathrooms often hide water damage. Check that your vanity will fit with the bathroom vanity calculator, and size your tile order with the tile calculator.
