Shower Remodel Cost Calculator
Installed cost of a new shower by type and size, plus common extras.
How to use this calculator
Choose a prefab kit or a custom tile shower, pick the size closest to yours, and tick any extras you want priced in. A prefab kit is a one-piece or multi-panel acrylic or fiberglass unit; a custom tile shower is built in place with a waterproofed base and tiled walls.
How this is calculated
The shower itself uses HomeGuide's 2026 installed-cost ranges by size, which include materials and labor. Each extra adds its own installed-cost range from the same guide: a glass door, a built-in bench or shelving, moving the plumbing, and a new exhaust fan.
Example
A standard 36 × 36 inch tiled shower comes to about $4,000–$8,000 installed, or $4,400–$9,900 with a glass door. The same size as a prefab kit is about $1,500–$4,000.
Prefab or tile?
Prefab costs less and goes in faster, typically in one to three days, because there is no tiling or separate waterproofing. Custom tile costs more but fits any size or layout and lets you choose the finish. If your shower doesn't have a fan, add one: steam that lingers is what peels paint and grows mold. The bathroom fan size calculator shows what size you need.
Estimate only, based on published 2026 national ranges. Local labor rates, the tile you choose, and damage found behind the old shower all change the price, and permits are extra where required.
