How to use this calculator

Choose the style of tub you want and tick any extras. The tub price already includes removing the old tub, installing the new one, and typical plumbing hookups. The extras are items that are often priced separately, so check a quote to see whether they're already included.

How this is calculated

Each tub style uses HomeGuide's 2026 installed-cost range, which covers the tub, labor, and typical modifications. The extras add HomeGuide's ranges for a new faucet, a tile surround, a glass shower door, and subfloor reinforcement, which heavy cast iron or stone tubs can need.

Example

Replacing a standard alcove tub costs about $1,500–$2,000. Adding a new faucet and a tile surround brings it to about $2,200–$4,600. A freestanding tub with subfloor reinforcement is about $2,500–$5,800.

Replacing a tub with a shower

If you'd rather have a walk-in shower where the tub was, HomeGuide puts a tub-to-shower conversion at about $2,000–$12,000. The shower remodel cost calculator prices the new shower by size and type.

Estimate only, based on published 2026 national ranges. Moving the drain, upstairs or hard-to-reach bathrooms, and water damage found under the old tub all add cost.
