How to use this calculator

Enter your kitchen's floor area in square feet, choose a remodel tier, and check the elements you plan to replace: cabinets, countertops, appliances, and flooring. The estimate changes as you select or deselect items, so you can see how much each part of the project moves the total. If you're keeping your existing cabinets, for example, uncheck them.

How this is calculated

The calculator applies a per-square-foot cost range for your chosen tier, then allocates that total across the categories you select (cabinets, countertops, appliances, flooring), plus labor and permits. Cabinets carry the largest share, followed by appliances, countertops, and flooring.

Example

For a 200 square foot kitchen at the mid-range tier with new cabinets, countertops, and appliances selected, the estimate is $27,000–$45,000. Adding new flooring raises it to $30,000–$50,000. The same kitchen at the budget tier with everything selected would be $15,000–$30,000, and at the high-end tier $50,000–$100,000.

Typical cost ranges

A budget cosmetic refresh (paint, hardware, minor fixture swaps) usually runs $75–150 per sq ft. A true mid-range remodel with new cabinets, counters, and appliances lands around $150–250 per sq ft. High-end projects involving layout changes, custom cabinetry, and premium finishes can run $250–500 per sq ft or more.

What can change the price

Moving plumbing or electrical, structural changes (removing walls), and custom cabinetry are the biggest cost drivers beyond this baseline. Get 2–3 contractor quotes once you've settled on scope, and set aside a contingency of 10–20% for surprises such as hidden water damage or outdated wiring. You can price the largest items separately with the cabinet cost calculator and the countertop cost calculator.

Estimate only, based on published 2026 national averages. The split between categories is an illustrative allocation, not a measured average. Actual pricing varies by region and contractor.
